Winter Scenes is an opportunity for students to write, costume, design sets, design lighting, and direct their peers in short plays performed in the intimate setting of the Black Box Theater. Any and all genres of theater performance are welcome to be submitted for consideration for each season. The whole process is entirely student lead and is a great opportunity as a student director to have the ultimate culminating experience of producing your own show! Because the casts are small, it is also an opportunity for students to participate in all aspects of theater and to forge lifelong friendships with their castmates. If there are any questions about Winter Scenes and how to apply to be a director, please contact Ben Lundy (benaiah_lundy@ipsd.org) or Tiffany Gervasio (tiffany_gervasio@ipsd.org) with any questions!

The Winter Scenes at Metea Valley High School were started as a way for students to experience firsthand the challenges and rewards of directing and producing small scenes or one-act plays, as well as the skill of producing a show in an intimate setting, all while working with small groups of like-minded and driven individuals.

This year's Winter Scenes:

The Boy and His Poems (written and directed by Aditi Puntambekar and Alli Jacobson) A new kid in school seems to have the gift of poetry.  He creates verse on the spot, and melts hearts with his prose.  But, who is he, and where did he come from?

Slam Sensation (written and directed by Nevaeh Maxey and Ciniyah Young)
A panel of slam poetry contestants vie for the grand prize, $10,000!  This play dives in to the rhyme and reason behind each contestant and their motivation.

The New Margo (written by Stephen Gregg and directed by Loren Jones)
It's only four days until classes of their freshman year begin, and Margo didn't come back to the dorm last night.  When she does arrive, she seems like a whole new person.  In fact, she very well maybe a different person….

Shows are February 13th, 14th, and 15th at 7 PM, and a matinee on the 15th at 2PM in the Metea Valley Theater Black Box.
